The New York Time Sues OpenAI and Microsoft Over Copyright Infringement
The New York Times is taking OpenAI and Microsoft to court for alleged copyright infringement, accusing them of using the Times' journalistic content to develop their AI models, including ChatGPT and Copilot. The Times contends that these models, by replicating or summarizing their articles, directly compete with the publication and harm its revenue streams from subscriptions, advertising, and affiliate partnerships.
The lawsuit seeks significant damages and aims to halt the use of Times' content in training AI models, highlighting a broader industry conflict as some news organizations block AI web crawlers, whereas others, like Axel Springer and the Associated Press, are forming partnerships with AI firms.
OpenAI Is Launching Their GPT Next Week
OpenAI is launching their much-anticipated GPT Store next week, offering a platform for developers to list and share custom apps based on their GPT models.
The GPT Store will allow developers to easily create AI-powered applications without coding expertise, using the GPT Builder tool for tasks ranging from culinary inquiries to coding assistance.
This initiative, first announced at OpenAI’s DevDay event in 2023 and delayed due to their leadership issues in November, marks a significant shift for OpenAI from an AI model provider to a comprehensive platform.
Apple’s iPhone Design Chief Joining Sam Altman & Jony Ive
Sam Altman's partnership with Jony Ive was first announced in September 2023, with their goal of “iPhone of artificial intelligence”.
It looks like this was more than speculation. Tang Tan, VP of iPhone & Apple Watch Product Design, will leave Apple in February, joining Jony Ive’s LoveFrom design studio.
We speculated back in September that this new device may be more like the movie Her, and less like an iPhone 📱, let's see what they come up with.
