OpenAI & Broadcom Partner on Custom AI Chips for Reasoning
OpenAI and Broadcom announced a partnership to develop 10 gigawatts of custom AI chips over the next four years. The deal involves tens of billions of dollars in chip purchases and sent Broadcom shares up nearly 10% adding over $150 billion to their market value.
The Broadcom deal represents OpenAI’s move to control their hardware destiny, with OpenAI designing XPUs, chips optimized specifically for their workloads instead of totally relying on GPUs from Nvidia.
