The AI Power Map
This is my constantly updated strategic playbook. It covers who’s winning, who’s losing, and why. The actual dynamics driving this industry.
Here are some recent dynamics:
Commoditizing Complements is the dominant strategy. Nvidia brings new cloud providers into the market while discriminating against companies building competing chips. OpenAI is commoditizing e-commerce through Instant Checkout. Whoever controls the bottleneck wins.
The Power of Defaults trumps product quality. Google pays Apple $20 billion annually to be the default search engine. Apple Maps took meaningful share from Google Maps despite being one of the worst product launches ever. Now Google is paying Apple $1 billion for a custom Gemini model to power Siri.
The full Power Map covers infrastructure plays, the AI coding battleground, why superintelligence isn’t imminent, and which companies are positioned to win or lose in each category. It gets updated as the landscape shifts.
What’s the Prompt Engineer Collective?
It’s a private community. Prompt engineers, AI engineers, ML practitioners, AI leaders. People from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Meta, and a bunch of startups you’ve probably heard of.
Community members get:
Job referrals and early access to unlisted roles
Salary benchmarks and negotiation intel (the stuff nobody talks about publicly)
Real conversations with practitioners who are doing this work every day
Member feedback on product building and development
Career advice and peer feedback on your next move
Honestly? This alone is worth the subscription. I’ve seen members land roles through community referrals that they never would have found otherwise.
Expense It
Lots of readers expense this through their company’s L&D budget. If you want to do the same, here’s an email you can send your manager:
Hi [Manager],
I’d like to expense a subscription to AI News Digest ($90/year). It’s a weekly newsletter covering AI industry trends, technology developments, and market analysis. It also includes access to a professional community of 1,300+ AI practitioners.
This will help me stay current on AI developments relevant to our work without spending hours reading multiple sources.

About Me
I’m Rome. Based in San Francisco.
By day, I’m helping build and grow Firmograph, building AI agents for sales and RevOps teams. We help CROs and revenue leaders analyze their Salesforce, Gong, and Gmail data without needing a full BI implementation.
Before that? I led sales at Datajoy (acquired by Databricks), and spent time at Salesforce and Microsoft. I started building in generative AI after the Databricks acquisition. My first product was killed by ChatGPT, so I started the Prompt Engineering Collective, which led me to Firmograph.
I figure if I’m going to spend all this time making sense of it for myself, I might as well help others do the same.
